The most spectacular bookstore in Buenos Aires, perhaps on earth, is El Ateneo located in the old and beautifully restored Grand Spendid theatre on Santa Fe and Callao. Early this year The Guardian put El Ateneo at #2 on their top ten list of the world's best bookstores. As a quick flickr search will reveal, the bookstore is oft-photographed. I used the widest angle lens I own but still couldn't fit it all in. A fish-eye would've been helpful. I remember seeing 'Men in Black' at this theatre in 1997 during my first visit to Buenos Aires, back when it was just another run-down movie theatre. I arrived late, it was dark and I missed a chance to appreciate the interior.
