Political graffiti painted on the outside of the old Carcel de Caseros near Parque Patricios. It was announcing a political rally supporting embattled Bolivian president Evo Morales. It mentioned something about el imperio Yanki and you can guess which side they're on.
I was watching the Obama-McCain debate last night in Palermo [which made local news coverate here] and after 60 minutes spent on just three countries [Iraq, Iran and Afganistan] it ocurred to me that those on the Left in Latin American really have no idea how little mindshare/bandwidth/attention their struggles occupy on the American scene these days.

What is interesting to analyse is who the ambasadors of the USA in Southamerica are.
During the 90s there were two guys (Terence Todmand and Mr. Cheek -I do not remember his given name) who were always working for their own business and getting involved into the inner politics of Argentina. I can understand that the case of the USA ambassador in Bolivia has much to do with this attitude.
Maybe these ambassadors do not really a t following the instructions of the foreign ministry (Secretary of State) of the USA. However, they represent the USA State and Government. Thus, even if Latinamerica is out of the electoral speech and main interest of the US-American citizens it is a matter of their responsibility and, indeed of the Federal Government's responsibility to regultate the activity of their representatives abroad.
Then, those who claim in Latinamerica for autodetermiantion and respect for the inner politics and souvereignity are not that far away from reality as you can perceive at a forst glance.
My finger betrayed me.. I mean "a first glance".
