Escaping the humidity of Buenos Aires I traveled to the province of San Juan, in part to visit the sactuary to Difunta Correa, a popular saint in Argentina, not recognized by the Catholic church. She was the wife of a soldier in the civil war of the 1840s who, in search of her husband, was found dead in the desert, some 60km from San Juan, with her infant child alive, still breast feeding [wikipedia: in English and Español]. Considered a miracle, the site has become a center of devotion. People leave offerings in thanks for their children, houses, cars, jobs--basically anything. The site is at once a monument to tackiness and a moving instance of faith. More photos on my personal site and flickr.

400 pesos?! They should be leaving you the offerings!
That was the bus fare. 200 pesos each way. Of course it was Coche Cama. I'm old.
