I've never been one for the beach so the whole social phenomenon of the summer balnearios is something I view more anthropologically than hedonistically. Above is Playa Varese in Mar Del Plata. This was taken the day after Christmas. I reckon about now there's three times this number on the beach.

In the 1950s Peron transformed the once exclusive town into a beach resort for the masses. Unions remain strong in Argentina and many have their own hotels in Mardel, like this one for a miners worker union.

Oddly for a beach town, most of the houses seem to have an alpine theme.

MDQ Rocks! [mdq is their airport code]

There's also a lot of buildings from the 1960s with this pixelated tile style that totally needs to be revived.

A big thing is to rent your own tent at one of the beaches.
