Jugá Beisbol, Che!

Beisbol, el deporte más lindo del mundo!

Just off the freeway leading to the airport at Ezeiza is Argentina's baseball complex. Baseball is way, way, way down on the list of sports played in Argentina [the most popular after soccer being basketball, tennis, rugby and field hockey]. I'm surprised there's even a complex. A small-ish, concrete stadium surrounds a full size diamond. There's a league that plays here on the weekends. The players are mostly from the US, Caribbean and Japan.

The complex is right next door to where Argentina's national soccer team trains, seen here thru the fence the separates the two.

Flores Tiles, Signage and Amorous Graffiti

More snapshots from Flores:

I love, love, love this parking garage sign on Calle Pergamino.

No puedo existir sin ti...

I love the layering effect of the red gate, the black spray can graffiti and the smaller, finer white graffiti, mostly declarations of love.

Flores Casas

There's this section of Flores between Avenida Varela and Parque Avellaneda that I keep returning to again and again. This past Sunday I went with a friend of mine whose grandparents live in this section of the barrio. I went loaded with my 4x5 large format camera to shoot some pictures of their house's interior. On the way I snapped these pictures with my pocket digital camera:

I usually try to photography my Chalet style houses when it's cloudy but I love how this house on Avenida Francisco Bilbao just glows in the sunlight.

Rosedal in the Spring

I'd almost forgotten about these photos I took on a lovely afternoon about a month ago while scouting out some locations for a portrait shoot. I love the intense green of the spring foliage. Also, I really should post more photos of traditionally beautiful things here in Buenos Aires, like the Rosedal.

Total cute overload on the little duckies.

Avenida Cordoba at Dusk

Avenida Cordoba at dusk. I think this is a 30 second exposure. I was at a friend's party and, as I'm wont to do when I've had a few drinks, I started grabbing peoples' cameras and taking pictures [Thanks Ellen :)]

Cumbia Villera CDs

cumbiavillera-6797
This is a really crappy photo I took of some pirated CDs I picked up at Retiro and used in an Argentimes story on Cumbia Villera. It was a back-up in case we couldn't get any high resolution photos of Pablo Lescano, which we eventually did thanks to his promoter [click thru to the article to see them]. I'd also recommend checking out Emiliano Granado's series on the subject.

I saw this from a block away and knew I had to take a picture.

Pintada Politica on Boyacá (desalojo)

Here's a pintada politica I came across on Avenida Boyaca near Rivadavia in Flores. It's protesting the government's eviction of a [squatted] cultural center, of which there are several. The city government has been moving to evict a lot of these centers, many which were set-up in the aftermath of the 2001/2 crisis. The Argentimes recently published a story with more background on these evictions and squats in general.

It's typical for rival fans of different soccer teams to scraw "puto" [or faggot] over graffiti belonging to the opposing team. See also, All Boys Puto.

1960s Apartment Buildings in Afternoon Light

Just a couple of pedestiran 1960s apartment buildings. I liked the hazy afternoon light and the color palette of beige and olive.
