I'm currently working on a project photographing views from contrafrente apartments. I'm interested in the jumble of buildings present in the center of the blocks [known as pulmones de manzana. If you have a view like this or know someone who does, please contact me at thobbs@gmail.com
For the project I'm using my large format camera. The photos I post here are my test shots on my digital camera.
Today Argentina celebrates its bicentennial. In the weeks leading up to today's events, many people have hung the nation's flag from their balconies. A selection:
Following up on the previous post, here are more shots from the same afternoon, focusing on façades. I realize the quantity is excessive but I sort of feel that's what digital photography and the web is about.
A few Sundays ago I was walking along Avenida Emilio Castro which divides Mataderos and Liniers. It's a diagonal avenue that creates a lot of interesting corners. These pictures are from the surrounding side streets. I was having one of those moments where everything was good. This can be a little dangerous as a photographer because maybe it means I've lost my criteria for judging things, or that I need to refine it. Fortunately my digital camera doesn't impose the same costs that my film camera does. I almost felt like those Google Street View vehicles, indiscriminately photographing everything that comes across their path. I guess I still have a niche until they send those vehicles down here.
Thanks for visiting this blog. I'm an American living in Buenos Aires since Feb. 2008 but I also lived here in 1993, 1999 and 2000. If you think I've misrepresented something, please leave a comment [hablo castellano]. I don't update this site much anymore but please visit my personal site. I still take pictures like crazy.
