A friend took me out to Barrio Don Orione in Claypole, zona sur. It's a large housing project completed in the early 1980s. My friend grew up there and his mom still lives in one of the apartments. We got lunch and waited for the light to get good. Photographing old cars is sort of easy nostalgia. It's hard to resist.

Garden Plants in Black & White

I'm ambivalent about black & white photographs. The whole school of black & white photographers who fetishize the perfect print and fine gradations of tone to the exclusion of interesting subject matter turns me off. On the other hand, sometimes it can totally work. I don't think that's the case with this photo, however.

Sandalia in the Rain

It was a rainy Sunday afternoon and I was all out of color film. I loaded up a seldom used roll of black & white and went looking for subject matter that I thought would look good in the medium. Stuff like glossy wet plants in the shade. The photo is a little too "Rocks & Trees" for me

Flores under the Autopista

I remember the day I took this photo I took a bus out to Flores to find some interesting houses. I wanted to photograph while it was cloudy. Unfortunately during the bus ride it cleared up. All the photos I took that afternoon were in the shade of the elevated freeway which cuts through the neighborhood.

From a springtime walk around the neighborhood of Versailles. For this photo I held the camera over my head. With a waist-level view finder you can turn the camera upside down and hold it over your head. It gives you a higher perspective but it's damn awkward as the image you're trying to compose is backwards and upside down. Also, it's hard to hold the camera steady. I had the shutter speed at 1/125 and it still came out a little blurry.
