Ochava Shadow - Beveled Edge

ochava-shadow-beveled-edge
With my Ochava Solstice project I'm looking for buildings with a squared edge. I've had to disqualify a few buildings for having a slightly beveled edge. Should I really be so strict? At least I noted the address of the two buildings above.

Ochava Shadow - Juan B Justo & Cucha Cucha

ochava-shadow-macri-ladron-8164
This Ochava shadow is on a very wide, avenue, Juan B Justo. If I'm going to photograph it for my Ochava Solstice project I'm going to need to find a telephoto lens for my 4x5in camera. I love the graffiti, though.

Narrow Chalet in Villa del Parque

I wonder if this is a duplex and if they can fit two cars in the garage. See also Half Chalet in Caseros.

Jacaranda 2010

It's time for my annual Jacaranda post. They're in bloom right now in Buenos Aires. Seriously, November is the best month to be here.

Round Ochavas

Lately I've been seeking out round courners as well to photograph:

Recent Contrafrentes - Nov 2010

Here are some recent shots from peoples' balconies. I'm still actively pursuing my Pulmones project so if you have a view that looks like this, let me know. I would be interested in photographing it.

Ochava Shadow - Caracas al 900

I'm back in Buenos Aires and hunting for more Ochava Solstices. I had already noted the location of this corner in Caballito. Unfortunately I arrived about 45 minutes too late. Qué garrón!

Buenos Aires Gay Pride 2010

Acording to Clarin, yesterday's Gay Pride march in Buenos Aires attracted 100,000. If so it's a record amount. Though still dwarfed by Sao Paulo, the parade here is growing each year. This year there was a lot of gratitude towards the Kirchners who passed gay marriage and memorials to the recently passed Nestor.

There's always a sizable political component to the march. Even the Communists got in on it.

Also new; flyers for gay wedding planners.

San Isidro Reserva Ecologica

san-isidro-reserva-7201
Smaller and more intimate than the Buenos Aires reserva, the San Isidro Reserva Ecologica has got great bird watching and a gives a good sense of what the riverine swampland might have once looked like.

The part closest to the river is filled with trash and debris from occasional flooding. Pristine wilderness it is not.

Corner in Florida

MF-2010-049-06-floridaesquina
Florida, not the state, is the name of a community in Zona Norte. I liked this house on the corner. It's like a little gift box.

Virrey del Pino

MF-2010-042-16-virreydelpino
Back at the end of summer I was invited to spend the weekend out at someone's quinta. It was in Virrey del Pino in La Matanza partido. La Matanza is the poorest section of Buenos Aires' suburbs and it was interesting to see how the belt of poverty started to merge with the country houses and gated communities at the extreme edge of the metropolitan area.

Mini-Coto in Chacarita

I've been told that this was the first location of Coto, a chain of usually mega-super markets.

Casa Peronista in Villa Ballester

MF-2010-040-18-casaperonistaballester
I've taken to calling these California-style bungalows "Casas Peronistas" because, as I understand it, that was the style that was popular during their era. I still need to go to Ciudad Evita.
